Minecraft IPA Beta Preview v26.40.27 was released on June 23, 2026 and introduces the experimental Dappled Forest biome — the upcoming Drop 3 feature for 2026. This is the first time Minecraft adds naturally occurring autumn-colored leaves without any mods, texture packs, or resource packs.

What’s in the Dappled Forest Preview
🍂 Dappled Forest Biome
The Dappled Forest is a cold-adjacent biome that generates near cold regions like Taigas and Snowy Plains. It features poplar trees with naturally occurring autumn leaf colors in three variants. All three colors can appear together in a single biome for a vibrant seasonal look.
🌳 Poplar Trees (3 Variants)
- Red Poplar: Deep crimson leaves, most dramatic autumn look
- Orange Poplar: Warm orange leaves, classic autumn feel
- Yellow Poplar: Golden yellow leaves, bright and cheerful
Poplar trees also spawn as fallen logs on the ground, adding natural clutter and making the biome feel alive. Fallen poplar logs support shelf mushrooms growing on their sides.
🍄 Shelf Mushrooms
Shelf Mushrooms grow horizontally on the sides of poplar logs and fallen trees. They can be composted and regrown with bone meal. Perfect for natural builds and aesthetic jungle/forest designs.
🔴 Red Shrubs
Red Shrubs are a new decorative bush found on the Dappled Forest floor. Unlike dead bushes, Red Shrubs are alive and renewable — they can be composted or regrown using bone meal. Adds natural ground cover to the autumn biome aesthetic.
🏕️ Abandoned Camps
New structures unique to the Dappled Forest. Abandoned Camps are small, atmospheric remnants of past travelers and come in multiple variants including camps with colored wool stairs, leaf-covered shelters, cobweb-draped old tents, abandoned crop patches, and tree stumps with supplies.

Complete wood block family for building: poplar logs, poplar planks, poplar stairs, poplar slabs, poplar fences, poplar fence gates, poplar doors, poplar trapdoors, poplar buttons, poplar pressure plates, and poplar boats.
