What’s New in Minecraft IPA v26.2 — Sulfur Caves

Minecraft v26.2 introduces the Sulfur Caves biome — a brand-new underground biome that can generate at any depth in the Overworld. Unlike previous underground biomes like Lush Caves or Deep Dark which were depth-dependent, Sulfur Caves can appear anywhere beneath the surface, making every cave exploration potentially dangerous and rewarding.

🌋 Sulfur Caves Biome

The Sulfur Caves are visually striking — warm yellow and red tones from the two new block types create a stark contrast with the grey stone typical of most caves. You can identify Sulfur Caves near the surface by yellow Sulfur blocks and reddish-brown Cinnabar blocks appearing in cave walls.

• Generates at any depth underground in the Overworld
• Identified by yellow Sulfur veins and red Cinnabar patches
• Contains dangerous Sulfur Pools that emit noxious gas
• Unique atmosphere with warm yellow/red color palette
• Works in all existing and newly generated worlds

☁️ Sulfur Pools & Gas Effects

Sulfur Pools are shallow bodies of sulfuric liquid found on the cave floor. When players step near or into them, noxious gas rises and causes a dizzying visual effect that disorients movement. Under the liquid surface, you can find Potent Sulfur — a new material with crafting uses added in future updates.

🧊 Sulfur Cube Mob

The Sulfur Cube is a brand-new hostile mob exclusive to the Sulfur Caves biome. Inspired by the Magma Cube but with unique behavior, the Sulfur Cube:

• Absorbs blocks from its surroundings, growing larger and more dangerous
• Can be knocked back with Strength status effects applied to players
• Splits into smaller Sulfur Cubes when killed (similar to Slimes and Magma Cubes)
• Drops Sulfur Shards used in future crafting recipes

🟡 Sulfur Blocks & 🔴 Cinnabar Blocks

Two complete block families were added in v26.2:

• Sulfur Blocks: Yellow building blocks. Includes slabs, stairs, walls, and chiseled variants. Crafted from Sulfur Shards.
• Cinnabar Blocks: Deep red-brown blocks with a rough, mineral texture. Complete block family including stairs, slabs, and walls.
